Christmas Markets

The  Christmas Market in Boulogne  is held inside the old city walls of the upper town. This Christmas market has stalls selling all kinds of Christmas gifts including arts and crafts, regional delicacies and local specialities including smoked herring and pastries. Past Christmas markets have seen the work of  an ice sculptor, a musical parade, and illumination of the Belfry. A firework display takes place along with the distribution of traditional Christmas puddings in the Enclos de Eveche next to the Cathedral.

Boulogne enjoys over a thousand  shops, and craftsmen, as well as around two hundred restaurants. Local food markets take place on Wednesday’s and Saturday mornings. A daily fish market takes place at the Quayside Gambetta. Boulogne combines a superb historic town with a bustling fisherman’s port.

Lille is the place to go for Christmas shopping! Over 80 wooden chalets make up the centre of the  Christmas market which is open every day,  between 19 November to 30 December. The market offers Christmas decorations and festive food, as well as arts and crafts.
The square is transformed into a winter wonderland, is taken over by an 20-yard high Christmas tree and a Ferris Wheel. The local shop windows vie to be the most original, with almost 4000 shops in the city offering something for everyone.
