The YHA Penzance Georgian mansion has views of Mounts Bay and the Lizard Peninsula, a traditional restaurant and gardens. Both Penzance Seafront and Newlyn Harbour are not far away.

There are dormitory rooms (most having bunk beds) with shared bathroom facilities

A Television lounge with Wi-Fi, and laundry facilities are also available.

Visit St Michael’s Mount and St Ives, home of the Tate gallery, or take a ferry to the Scilly Isles


Penzance YHA, dating from 1720, now has 22 bedrooms, most with no more than six beds, accommodating up to 100 guests . One room has wheelchair accessible.


Evening meals and packed lunches and buffet breakfast are available daily in the restaurant. A fully equipped kitchen for self-catering guests, is also available.

  • No classroom. 2 x dining rooms can be used as workspaces outside of meal times. Seating 30 and 35

Our ‘Outside the Classroom’ tours reflect the location and the environment of our YHA Hostels – however – we are anxious to emphasise that, within reason, we are able to tailor make the content of your tour to meet your specific requirements. You can balance study with activity and there is always a degree of ‘pick and mix.’

Tour Content.

Develop fresh techniques using works by acclaimed artists and discover the inspirational atmosphere of Cornwall. Workshops led by local artists in Gallery settings themed according to the changing exhibitions at each location.

The following gallery options are available:

  • Artist led workshop at ‘Art St. Ives.’
  • Abstract form at the Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture gallery.
  • Contemporary Art workshops with the Newlyn Gallery.

Examine the work of the Newlyn School and Lamorna Group of artists of the 19th and 20th Centuries at Penlee House Museum and Gallery.
